New Providence & Grand Bahama Gov’t Offices to Close Tuesday at 3pm

NASSAU, The Bahamas– The Cabinet Office has announced that all Government Offices in New Providence and Grand Bahama will be closed as of 3pm today – Tuesday, October 4 – until further notice.

The Cabinet Office further advises Bahamians throughout The Commonwealth of The Bahamas to continue with their hurricane preparations and to observe all National Advisories/Alerts/Watches/Warnings issued by the National Emergency Management Agency, the Bahamas Department of Meteorology and other essential Government Ministries/Corporations/Agencies and Departments.

Bahamas and Republic of Turkey Sign Air-Service Agreement

Ottawa, Canada – The Bahamas High Commission in Ottawa is pleased to advise that the governments of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and of the Republic of Turkey signed an Air Service Agreement today at the Headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.

The High Commissioner of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to Canada, and Permanent Representative to ICAO, His Excellency Dr. Calsey Johnson signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of The Bahamas, and the Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication, Mr. Orhan Birdal signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

Schools in Southeastern Bahamas Closed Until Further Notice – Schools in Central Bahamas to Close Tuesday

PUBLIC SCHOOLS in the SOUTH EASTERN Bahamas will CLOSE TOMORROW, MONDAY OCTOBER 3rd UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

These islands include:

MAYAGUANA, INAGUA, CROOKED ISLAND, ACKLINS, RAGGED ISLAND, LONG CAY and SAMANA CAY.

Schools in the CENTRAL BAHAMAS will close on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4th.

These islands include: LONG ISLAND, CAT ISLAND, RUM CAY, SAN SALVADOR and EXUMA...

PM Christie Speaks on Hurricane Matthew and Plans Implemented for its Bahamas Landfall

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie, on October 3, 2016, addressed the nation on the plans already implemented for the approaching Hurricane Matthew, which is already at a category 4 level.

"As of now, we are urging all Bahamians to take maximum safety precautions for yourselves and for your families," Prime Minister Christie said at the press event held at the Cabinet Office. "It costs the Government a great deal if they have to go in hazardous circumstances and situations to rescue people and we try to avoid that."

The Bahamas announces Out Island airport closures

The Department of Civil Aviation in conjunction with the Airport Authority of The Bahamas advises the public that the following airport closures will go into effect on Tuesday, 4th October, 2016, as a result of Tropical Storm or Hurricane Force winds emanating from Hurricane Matthew.

The Department of Civil Aviation and the Airport Authority will advise the public of any changes to the afore-mentioned times, as necessary. Persons are also requested to listen carefully for additional airport closures throughout the week, and for airport re-openings...


Adam Karch Grand Bahama concert canceled due to Hurricane Matthew

The concert scheduled for Saturday, October 8th with visiting Canadian blues and folk rock artist, Adam Karch has been canceled due to Hurricane Matthew. A new date will be announced later. For those that attended his 2011 concert  in Grand Bahama, you already know this is not a performance to be missed!
