Local retailers rang in the sales during last week’s Freeport Flash Friday promotions, hosted by the Invest Grand Bahama Small Business Bureau, (IGBSBB) of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA).  With more than 100-stores participating for the initiative’s 2nd year, the citywide sales event designed to stimulate the island’s economy, brought an even bigger and better shopping experience to residents.

GBPA President, Ian Rolle, described the 2nd annual Freeport Flash Friday event as a success. “Freeport Flash Friday continues to gain traction as our one-day, citywide sales event, where shoppers have an opportunity to enjoy savings from a variety of participating stores.” Rolle commented.

We are our Brother’s keepers and as we have been taught, it’s better to give than to receive.  This is the premise behind the Outreach program of the Lucaya Presbyterian Church who have come to the aid of those in need in our own backyard. Last month Buckeye, Grand Bahama’s leading oil refinery company, joined the Church volunteers on their October food run to aid over 55 needy families.

“The contents of each bag are designed to supply the needs of a family for quite a while,” said Crossreach Volunteer, Stephen Crane.  “They certainly help many of our elderly, living alone, who miraculously make it last until the next delivery.”

For the last 40 years, the Lucaya Presbyterian Church has sold real Christmas trees to the Grand Bahama community; and starting this week that tradition will continue. “Thankfully it has been very successful almost every year that we have held it,” said Rev. Kenneth Lane “The benefits of the fundraiser are easily recognized as something that the community at large has experienced, whether it is those that are less fortunate or those that have felt the ravages of Hurricane Matthew.”...
