Junior Junkanoo Press Statement & Results

On December 9th, 2017, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture – in conjunction with the National Junkanoo Committee (N.J.C) and title sponsor SOL Petroleum Bahamas Ltd. -- hosted the Junior Junkanoo Parade at Arawak Cay.
 
Due to extreme weather challenges, the parade was shortened. Twenty-two groups were scheduled to participate in the parade. However, only 19 participated. While all of these groups performed, they were not all able to be judged due to the inclement weather.

Cat Island Students compete to assist community projects

The Hon. Frankie Campbell and a delegation from the Ministry of Transport and Local Government visited Cat Island recently. While there, Junior Councilors from Arthur’s Town High School and Old Bight High School participated in a District Local Government Junior Council speech competition at the Media Centre.

The theme for the competition was “Local Government, Building Communities through Partnerships, Accountability, Integrity and Productivity.”...

New Investment Funds Bill 2017 set to fill substantive legislative gaps

The new Investment Funds bill will transition from the older, exclusively rules or disclosure based approach to regulation of investment funds, to a modern approach that considers the conduct of industry participants, and includes appropriate prudential assessments.

This according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest, creates an opportunity for growth-friendly legislative framework, unencumbered by unnecessary barriers to entry...
